White Oaks Mall to undergo renovation
Work will include remodelling of its food court which will be equipped with new lighting, furniture like soft seating and décor. Other parts of the revamped mall will feature soft seating too and will comprise hands-free doors. The building's entrances will feature new lighting and will be adorned with natural stone and landscaping post renovation work. The project will also include addition of a family restroom on the lower level. A nursing station will be added to the facility after the overhaul.
There will be new flooring across the entire mall after the facelift. It will also be fitted with new directional signs and new exterior signs. Other renovation works to be carried out include creation of new landscaping and new retail merchandising wings in the common area as well as makeover of the The Limited store.
The upgraded facility will sport warm colors, textures and will feature wood and stone materials. In addition, a Third Age Living Centre will be added through St. John’s Hospital which will conduct exercise, educational and social programmes.
The project is presently in the design phase. Work is expected to begin by August 2011.

This site is a place for me to blog about one of my favorite topics of all: Malls! I've been a fan of the enclosed mall since the late 1970s, and still feel a special something when I'm relaxing at my local mall, exploring a new mall, or even looking a the remains of a mall from days gone by. I created this page to share that feeling with you. Enjoy. I have the pleasure of reviewing a beautiful classic mall today in White Oaks Mall, Springfield. This little gem is just a few minutes off Interstate 55 when travelling between St Louis and Chicago (take the 72 west exit at Springfield and go about two miles). You can tell you're getting near the mall because you'll come into a retail mecca with dozens of well recognized names such as Best Buy, K-Mart, and Walmart to name a few. Inside, we find a very well appointed two-level mall, probably redecorated sometime in the early 1990s. The atmosphere of this mall is very vibrant, though there are a few dead stores. A large carousel stands in the middle, and a children's play area near Sears on the lower level makes this mall a nice place to shop with children in tow. The lighting is very strong except in dead areas, and the skylights add plenty of natural lighting as well. For dining, there's a small food court including a Charley's Subs (a favorite of mine in the St Louis area), Subway and a couple others. Also, there's an unusual free-standing Panda Express outbuilding, and several other casual dining restaurants are nearby.
