Willie unveils new plush jet
MANILA, Philippines – Multi-millionaire TV host Willie Revillame has a new acquisition – a Dornier 328 turbo-fan powered jet.
Revillame’s purchase of the P200 million luxury airplane was first mentioned in an article published earlier this month by entertainment editor and columnist, Ricky Lo.
His recent jaunt to Cebu as part of the TV5 caravan, “Sugod Mga Kapatid,” is the first time that Revillame has allowed fans to inspect for themselves the plush red, blue and white aircraft that he has christened the “Wil Jet.”
Talk show “Paparazzi” also took their cameras and toured the plane for a special dubbed “On the Wings of Wil,” June 26. In the subsequent interview, the craft’s chief pilot, Captain Manuel Rivero, revealed how Revillame came to own the plane.
“The aircraft was acquired two and a half years ago. We brought it from the States and we flew it back to Manila,” he said.
Revillame had apparently already been using the aircraft for a number of domestic trips.
“Kasama si Wil, nanggaling na kami ng Tuguegarao at ng Kalibo and ito nga, very recently, sa Cebu,” Rivero said. And it seems foreign excursions are not out of the picture as well. “I think there are plans to bring it to Dubai,” Rivero divulged.
According to Wikipedia, the German-manufactured Dornier 328 was designed as a commuter airline capable of carrying a minimum of 30 passengers. According to the site airliners.net, it is "a modern regional turbo-fan airliner that offers high cruising speeds and advanced systems." It was also once considered the fastest and most advanced but also the most expensive aircraft of its type in its time, and was among the more popular air transport units manufactured by the company prior to it becoming insolvent in 2002.
The jet is only the latest in Revillame's long-list of prized possessions.
Aside from owning a fleet of cars that include a couple of Porsche's, a Hummer and a Benz convertible, Revillame also owns a yacht, with which he was supposed to have used for a short cruise in Manila Bay in an attempt to woo "Wil Time Big Time" co-host Shalani Soledad.
In Lo's article, he made mention of Revillame acquiring several properties recently including a huge, vacant lot in Quezon City near his former network, ABS-CBN and a property in Tagaytay, which the host supposedly plans to develop into a resort.
