Burglar nabs $150 in cash

“Someone made access through a window and took $150 in cash,” Clawson said.

Upon arrival at the business Thursday, the owners of the business found the door unlocked and noticed a screen had been removed from a window, said Assistant Police Chief Dan Ramsey.

“Apparently someone had entered through a window and took the cash,” Ramsey said.

While the window wasn’t left open in this case, there are cases where opportunity presents itself to a potential burglar, Ramsey said.

When people leave garage doors open and car doors unlocked, or when people leave valuable electronics or purses in plain sight in an unlocked car, it could give someone an easy chance to steal something, he said.

“You’re making it a tempting thing to someone who might steal something,” Ramsey said. “You’re helping them out by giving them an opportunity and most of these crimes are crimes of opportunity.”

Clawson agreed, adding that if someone must leave a valuable in the car, make sure it’s not easily visible, or lock it in the trunk.

Essentially, he said, don’t give potential thieves a chance — lock all doors, don’t leave windows open, don’t leave valuables lying around.

“It all boils down to, use common sense,” Clawson said.
