She has been responsible for professional development training throughout the country. In 2010, she assumed responsibility as Deputy Commander of the U.S. Army Human Resources Command. Gen. Anderson was awarded a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies at the United States Army War College. Her military awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachutist Badge, and Physical Fitness Badge.  As a citizen-Soldier, General Anderson is employed by the United States Courts, where she serves as the Clerk of Bankruptcy Court, Western District of Wisconsin, located in Madison, WI.

Gen. Anderson will be attending the Essence Music Festival taking place in New Orleans July 1 – 3. The festival is the largest event celebrating African-American culture, music, and communities in the United States.

Will you be recruiting at the Essence Music Festival?

The Army Reserve has been a strong supporter of the music festival because of our mutual interest in creating and supporting strong African American communities.

We know that the Essence Music Festival is not only about celebrating music but it also brings together the greatest leaders in the African American community. As an inclusive organization, we are here to build aware that the reserve army is one (of many) paths to success for everyone.Â

Something must be working: forty percent of Army Reserve soldiers are minorities and it has the highest percentage of women among all the military branches to 25%. Overall, there are 44,970 African American soldiers in the Army Reserve. There are 6136 African American officers in the Army Reserve and the officers, 2,474 are women.

Do you think the Reserve may have some lessons for U.S.companies and companies on hiring, retention and promotion?

The Army Reserve is a national leader in embracing and enhancing the strengths of different soldiers, civilians and family members in an inclusive environment.Â

Iâ € ™ m not sure we can credit any one particular attribute to the diversity of the Reserve component. It can be a multitude of things. We offer flexible career and educational opportunities for all. We find the right person with the right skills at the right time.
